Who experiences risks outside the home

Some of the factors that may make a child more vulnerable to risks outside the home are:

  • family conflict or domestic abuse
  • experience of trauma, neglect or abuse
  • bereavement or loss
  • social isolation for example not having many friends
  • additional needs such as neurodiversity or disability
  • low self-esteem or poor mental health
  • financial difficulties at home

It is important to remember that although some children might be more vulnerable to these risks, any child can experience these.
