Safeguarding in schools

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Anyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play.

All schools must follow the statutory guidance from the Department for Education called Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023.

This is a child centred approach which means that schools must consider the best interests of the child at all times.

Who to contact if you have concerns

Each school will have further information on their website about their commitment to safeguarding. It will include details of who the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) is and who you can contact if you have concerns about any child.

If your concerns are during a period when the school is closed, please visit our what to do if you’re worried about a child section.

Child protection policy

You will find a safeguarding child protection policy on your child’s school website. It will explain how the school keeps children safe and the role of the DSL, headteacher, governing body and multi academy trust. If you have difficulty accessing this policy, please contact the school office.
