NSSCP subgroups and business plans

The North Somerset Safeguarding Children's Partnership (NSSCP) is supported by six subgroups. The aim of the subgroups is to drive forward the strategic priorities of the NSSCP. The purpose of the subgroups is to coordinate matters arising from the meetings of the NSSCP’s Executive.

Subgroups

  • Child Safeguarding Practice Review (CSPR) subgroup
  • Learning and Development subgroup
  • Quality Assurance and Performance Monitoring subgroup
  • Risk Outside The Home (ROTH) subgroup
  • Neglect subgroup
  • Communications subgroup (joint with Local Safeguarding Adult Board)

Child Death Overview Panel

Since April 2008 there has been a legal requirement for every Local Safeguarding Children Board to review all child deaths. We do this to learn lessons that will improve the health, safety, and well-being of children.

Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) handles this process. It applies to all children and involves professionals with involvement in a child’s care.

The purpose of the review is to:

  • reduce the number of childhood deaths
  • identify matters of concern affecting the safety and welfare of children
  • identify wider public health or safety concerns arising from a death or a pattern of deaths
  • undertake a coordinated agency response to all unexpected child
  • notify the LSCB of a child's death

Annual reports

The CDOP also produces annual reports.

Any agency becoming aware of:

  • a child death occurring in North Somerset
  • a death of a child that usually resides in North Somerset but the death has occurred elsewhere

should make a notification using the Form A – Notification of a Child Death to the CDOP via the provided contact details.
